What We Are
The Blockchain for Social Impact Coalition (BSIC) is a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit organization that incubates, develops, and collaborates on blockchain products and solutions that can address environmental and social challenges across the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on the impact of global Climate Change.
We aim to inspire, federate, and create bridges between NGO’s, and government agencies, foundations, traditional finance, impact investors, philanthropists, Web3 and digital technologists.
What We Do
We promote the creation of blockchain solutions and applications that address global social and environmental issues. Our two key initiatives for 2024-2025 are to support global efforts to:
1) address the negative ESG impacts of DLT itself, as well as other energy intensive digital technologies (including AI).
2) engage the blockchain community in the support sustainable finance solutions.
How We Do It
– Advisory and consultation on blockchain projects.
– Research and publications on blockchain case studies.
– Meetups and events to foster blockchain in social impact initiatives.
Who We Are
Inspired by the Ethereum Merge, a group of technology companies—aligned around the mission of accelerating decarbonization and scaling climate action— launched the Ethereum Climate Platform (ECP) at COP27.
Pooling the best of Web3 and digital technologies, ECP is engaging the Ethereum community and beyond to accelerate climate finance at scale. ECP achieves this by deploying the best-in-class technology and funding the development of digital environmental assets that will mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and deliver positive environmental and social impact for years to come.
As of June 2024, ECP has joined BSIC and taken on a leadership role to enable greater public education and engagement around climate action and social impact.
ECP was founded by Consensys and climate tech firm Allinfra. Its launch partners include: AAVE, Celo, ERM, Filecoin Green, Laser Digital (Nomura), Microsoft, NEAR Foundation, Polygon, Solid World, Toucan, UPC Capital Ventures, and W3bcloud.
ECP and its launch partners are grateful for the following individuals and organizations who are providing invaluable advice, connections, and support to the initiative: GitCoin, Gold Standard, Climate Collective, Global Covenant of Mayors, IETA, Code Green, GBBC, Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, UN WFP Innovation Accelerator, Michael Sheren, Satya Tripathi, Michael Brune, Chris Larsen, Ingo Puhl, Gregor Robertson, and Lex Sokolin.
